OUR HISTORY
At the inaugural summer opera programme in Scheggino, in 2002, a group of likeminded singers got together to study Italian opera under the tuition of Colin Baldy. Since then, there has been a meeting of singers in the small Italian town every year, studying a broad range of Italian opera.
The Summer School participants have also been able to use their skills to support local issues. In 2016, shortly after the summer school had finished, there was a massive earthquake in the local area which caused massive destruction to many towns and villages. The members of the summer school were able to reconnect in the UK and tour their production of Gianni Schicchi to different venues in and around London, and raised a considerable amount of money for the Italian Red Cross, in their work supporting local residents and start rebuilding.
In more recent years, the summer school has featured adaptations of Le nozze di Figaro (2015) and Il matrimonio segreto (2018), and full productions of Gianni Schicchi (2016) and I due timidi (2017).

OUR FUTURE
Scheggino Opera Summer School continues into the future with a strong commitment to supporting the operatic voices of the future, encouraging development in their vocal technique, Italian language skills, and stagecraft skills, in a fun and relaxed environment.
The Summer School also continues to work with the community in Scheggino to support the restoration and repair of the town's performance and rehearsal facilities in the school and the theatre.
